New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia Chartered Bus

The bus will start out Nov. 1 in Manhattan from a point near Penn Station at a time to be announced and will stop at Metro Park near Edison, New Jersey. From there, it will go to Philadelphia, PA. There will not be a stop in South New Jersey. In Philadelphia, the bus is tentatively scheduled to stop at the 30th Street Train Station. From there it'll go on to the Best Western Hotel in Washington DC. We'll be updating this as we nail down more plans and get more information. The next morning, on Nov 2, probably around 10am, that same bus will take us from the hotel to the National Mall. Then after the march/rally, around 4pm, we'll all get back onto that bus and go back the way we came, making the same stops along the way in Philly and New Jersey dropping people off, and finally we'll get back into Manhattan by sometime late that night. There will be plenty of room for extra baggage, signs, and banners. Local groups are encouraged to bring a group banner.

To reserve your seat on the chartered bus, mail your payment of $60. per person to:

The New Jersey Humanist Network
PO Box 51
Washington NJ 07882

Please be sure to send a note with your check or money order indicating exactly what it's for, and make out the check or money order to: New Jersey Humanist Network. They'll notify me of the payment, and I'll mail you a receipt for that payment. Also, this is how you reserve your seat on the bus. It's on a first-come-first-served basis, so making payment is the only way to reserve your seat.

People in New Jersey and Philadelphia: Please e-mail me: aajoeyjr@aol.com or call me (908)276-7300 to let me know where it'll be convenient for you to get picked up. We're working with the bus company on the best places along the way to stop for people, and we'll do our best to make it work well for both them and you.

More information will be coming as soon as we solidify more plans. Everyone feel free to contact me anytime for answers to your questions. And hey! Tell a friend!

Thanks to the New Jersey Humanist Network for help with this project.

Rationalists of East Tennessee

The Rationalists of East Tennessee have organized a group trip. We're leaving Knoxville at noon on Friday Nov., 1st, staying at the Hilton Garden Inn and leaving for home Sunday morning. We expect it to be an 8.5 hour trip one-way and plan to rent a van that fits us all comfortably.

We're looking for other folks who want to share costs and make the trip less expensive and more fun. Contact Dave Buck at dave.buck@comcast.net for more information.

Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Claymont, Delaware

To insure the best possible attendance at the Godless March on Washington scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2002, Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia (FSGP) president Margaret Downey contracted with Martz Lines for transportation to and from Washington, DC.

The beautiful air conditioned bus has video capabilities and an on-board bathroom. Food and beverages are allowed. Passengers are encouraged to provide their own breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages.

The video entertainment for the trip to Washington will be Mr. Dreyfuss Goes to Washington (a History Channel special presentation). This one hour and thirty minute video reveals little known facts about Washington, DC. Freethinkers will find this video very encouraging as the true history of America is exposed.

Bus passengers will be provided with placards, rally signs, and other decorative rally paraphernalia. The theme is "patriotic" so the use of red, white, and blue colors is most appropriate. Please consider wearing patriotic clothes to add a festive component to the march. A drawing will be held to select six participants to carry the FSGP banner and special attention getting decorations. We will practice rally chants as we travel to our destination. Music, games, prizes, and other fun activities are planned for the trip.

The video presentation for the return trip is The Other Side of Sunday (a highly recommended Atheistic movie). The comfortable bus will ease you into a peaceful rest if you would rather skip the video presentation and simply sleep.

The bus seats up to forty-seven passengers. If all the seats are sold, participants will receive an appropriate rebate. FSGP does not need to make a profit on this event. Our goal is to have as large a turnout as possible.

The bus will stop at two convenient locations. The first stop will be at 7 AM. Please meet the bus at the Southeast Philadelphia Target Store parking lot located at 1-79 Mifslin, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19148 (cross street is Snyder Avenue). Free parking is available at this site.

The second stop will be at 8:15 AM. Please meet the bus in the Home Depot parking lot located in the Northtown Shopping Plaza at 601 Naamans Road, Claymont, Delaware 19703. Free parking is available at this site.

Please complete the form below and mail to FSGP before Friday, November 1, 2002 (last date for reserevations). There is no refund available. If you must cancel please notify FSGP to avoid any misunderstanding. Your reservation money, however, will be considered a donation to FSGP.

Chicago Area

I am coordinating a group trip from the Chicago area. Leaving by 5am on November 1st, return on November 3rd. There are 7 confirmed riders, and 2 others considering, as of October 24th, and a full-size van (15-seats) has been rented. We need at least 3 more riders.

Due to the fluctuating response, I now have to set a deadline for "signup". If I do not have 5 more 'confirmed' riders by the end of Monday Oct. 28th, I am going to cancel the Large Van rental and downsize to a 7-seater minivan. Most of our riders are cost-sensitive and the Large Van costs more with less than 12 passengers. At this time, I could still accomodate all the confirmed riders in the smaller vehicle. Please get your groups together and contact me soon!

I will stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in VA (the "official" hotel). At least one of the others is staying elsewhere, so a drop-off will probably be done.

Rendezvous area for Friday morning pickup still TBD, attempting to make it convenient for as many as possible. Please indicate where you will be coming from when responding.

Comraderie would be great for a day-long trip. Why drive when you can "commiserate" with fellow freethinkers on the way there and back? Please contact me at this email address if you are interested.

Latest details:

Rental confirmed. Estimate on total cost is $850 Max (rental, tolls, but excluding any food you want to eat during the 750-mile trip).
